The Role of Fibroblast Growth Factor-23 in Cardiorenal Syndrome

چکیده
Abnormalities in chronic kidney disease-related bone and mineral metabolism (CKD-MBD) have emerged as novel risk factors in excess cardiovascular mortality in patients with CKD and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The pathophysiological links between CKD-MBD and adverse cardiovascular events in this patient population are unclear. Hyperphosphatemia through induction of vascular calcifications and decreased active vitamin D production leading to activation of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) along with defects in innate immunity are purported to be the proximate cause of CKD-MBD-associated mortality in CKD. Recently, this view has been challenged by the observation that fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23), a newly discovered hormone produced in the bone that regulates phosphate and vitamin D metabolism by the kidney, is a strong predictor of adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with CKD and ESRD. Whether these associations between elevated circulating FGF23 levels and cardiovascular outcomes are causative, and if so, the mechanisms mediating the effects of FGF23 on the cardiovascular system are not clear. The principal physiological functions of FGF23 are mediated by activation of FGF receptor/α-klotho coreceptor complexes in target tissues. ElPublished online: August 6, 2013 L. Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Hypophosphatemia: A Case of Hypophosphatemia along the Rickets-Osteomalacia Spectrum.
Phosphorus is a key component of bone, and a deficiency results in poor mineralization along with other systemic symptoms of hypophosphatemia. Various causes of hypophosphatemia with renal wasting of phosphorus have been identified. These include the Fanconi syndrome, various genetic mutations of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) handling and the sodium/phosphate cotransporter, and those due ...

SEE PAGE 829 C hronic kidney disease (CKD) promotes cardiac injury, and heart failure begets kidney injury. Although shared risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and atherosclerosis are wellknown igniters of the combustible interaction between chronic heart and kidney diseases, identification of the accelerants that drive the full-fledged public health conflagration of “cardiorenal” dise...
متن کاملEffect of High Intensity Interval Training on the Level of Atrial Fibrillation, Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 and Klotho Protein in Male Rats with Renal Failure
Introduction: Cardiovascular problems and atrial fibrillation is one of the most prevalent secondary consequences in hemodialysis patients. This study aimed to examine the effect of high intensity interval training on the level of atrial fibrillation, fibroblast growth factor 23 and Klotho in male rats with chronic kidney disease. Methods: In this study, 30 male rats Wistar (7-8 weeks) were ra...

Background: The fibroblast growth factors (FGF-4) are a group of heparin-binding single chain polypeptides that play a pivotal role in development, cell growth, tissue repairing and transformation. The aim of this study is to improve development and maturation outcome of vitrified mouse pre-antral follicle by adding of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) into medium culture.
